BACKGROUND:
I do not know the current owners... However, late last year, my security cameras picked up motion in the backyard, when there should not have been any. I checked in and saw, what I thought were 'clouds' at first, whcih made no sense. I quickly realized it was SMOKE.
I got in my car and came up to my house to find that this property was ON FIRE - - specifically, the GARAGE was fully engulfed and subsequently a "total loss".
The LAFD hooked up to a different hydrant, not the one on my property (2647). I did show the LAFD commander in charge, the hydrant on my property and explained it had been a leaking/patch fight with Golden State Water Department for a VERY LONG time. He reported it and the entire hydrant, riser, valve and more - was completely replaced within 96 hours.
The LAFD told me that the fire was from "a kitchen fire, from an illegal kitchen in the garage".
Subequent conversation with another neighbor I have kown for over 50 years, stated that there was an illegal gas line going into the garage & that he had warned them more than several times as he was concerned that his house would be damaged.
The garage DID burn down - thankfully his property was not burned - but it did suffer some serious smole damage.
This is a very stark reality of having QUALIFIED people installing important items and having PERMITS to verify that the work was done PROPERLY and LEGALLY.
This could have been an EXTREMELY TRAGIC event - fortunately no one was killed or injured.
This FIRE - - was the very FIRST (and ONLY) fire that has happened anywhere in this neighborhood that I can recall since we moved in here, back in 1968....
